＊北朝鮮のミサイル発射を受け、政府･与党内で自衛隊に敵基地攻撃能力を保有させるべきだとの意見が出ており、国内外で波紋が広がっている。
◆The splashdown of seven North Korean missiles into the Sea of Japan on July 5 is causing
splashdown = 着水、着水場所
Sea of Japan = 日本海
cause + O + to do = 〈人･事が〉〈人･事〉に…させる(原因となる)。ｍakeやhaveが意識的な使役を表すのに対し、causeは偶発的、無意図的。

a number of 〜 = （不特定の）多数の、大勢の　　
cf. the number of 〜 (number = 合計、総体)
